Fire, Ink, Lino and a Phoenix

Beadwork remains at the heart of my creative practice, but every now and then I love to venture into new techniques. Lately, linocut has truly captivated me — a craft process where you carve a pattern into a linoleum block with a sharp knife, then print it onto paper with ink. At first glance it may seem far removed from bead weaving, yet it calls for exactly the same values: precision, patience and creativity.

The phoenix you see here is my first serious linocut print. The phoenix is a symbol of rebirth and renewal — to me it also carries the message that as a maker, it's always worth staying open to new ideas and possibilities, even when they lead in an entirely different direction.

These new experiences never stay separate from my jewellery work. A new technique changes the way you see things, bringing fresh lines, shapes and inspiration that find their way back into my next jewellery designs.

Who knows — perhaps this phoenix is just the first stop on a longer creative journey.
